Aalu gosht sojne ki phalli ka saalan(potatoes mutton and drumsticks curry)
yesterday i bought two long fresh drumsticks from the supermarket to prepare sambhar , i was unaware that its my MIL’s fav veg. She told me that she’ll prepare the above mentioned curry which is relished by every member of her household and this was the first time i had it. And when this curry was ready by the expert hands it was so deliciously colourful and awfully tasty that i had to admit that even without tomatoes, curries could be made heavenly delicious. Actually i had a very serious feeling that tomatoes are an essential ingredient for most delicious dishes.I was proved wrong here
.
My dear Mom in law prepared the whole curry without my assistance and on my insisting she just allowed me to clean the mutton.Following is her experienced, tasty and relishing recipe for Aalu gosht sojne ki phalli ka saalan.
Ingredients:
potatoes – 4 medium(cubed bite size)
onion- 2 medium (sliced)
drumsticks- 2 (cut into 2 inch length)
mutton- 1/2 kg
green chillies-3
ginger garlic paste-2tbsp
red chilli powder- 2 tbsp
turmeric powder – 1tsp
coriander powder- 1 tsp
salt to taste
Coriander leaves chopped- 1tbsp
corn oil/sunflower oil- 2 tbsp
Procedure:
Clean the mutton pieces and add redchilli powder, salt, turmeric powder, coriander powder, green chillies and corn oil and mix well.Add 1 cup of water and let it cook till the mutton is tender and the water is completely absorbed. Now add ginger garlic paste and cook for another 5 minutes taking care not to burn the meat.
Now add potato and drumsticks and mix well and add 2 cups of water and cover it and cook over medium heat. When the gravy thickens put it on simmer for 5 minutes and add 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.Put off the flame and just relish this dish with plain white rice or roti or phulka.
Tips:
Cook till the the top layer of the potatoes is mashed soft in appearance.
Do not stir too much else the drumsticks may break into half
Gajar ka halwa
This is one sweet which I cant say “No” if offered.
And my food processor makes my work easy by grating the carrots very fast and fine. Today It was almost the time my hubby returns frm office n i wanted to give him a Gajar ka halwa surprise coz he likes it too.And to my luck my kid was sleeping then. I went into the kitchen, closed the door n grated the carrots so that my kid doesnt wake up.(his hearing is too sharp even while hez sleeping
)I also used beetroot along with this and it gives a very rich colour and also improves the flavour of the dish. You cannot make out that u hav added beetroot if cook perfectly. Then i finished the recipe by the time my hubby was home. It nearly took me half n hr frm the grating to the end.Herez the recipe.
Carrots-1/2 kg(finely grated)
beetroot- 2 (grated)
Milk-1/2 lt
condensed milk-1/4 cup
sugar- 1/2 cup
dry fruits- 1/4 cup (cashews,almonds,raisins)
cardamom powder-1tsp
khoya/mava-optional
Ghee-2tbsp
procedure:
Add the grated carrots into a heavy bottomed pan and let it cook till all the water is evaporated.keep checking so that the carrots dont get burnt. Now add the milk and cook on medium flame for 5 mins or till the milk is absorbd and the carrots get soft.Add the sugar and the condensed milk and let it cook for 10 min stirring regularly.
Meanwhile heat 2 tablsp of Ghee and lightly brown the dry fruits.
Now add the khoya(i didn’t use since i didnot hav it at home),cardamom powder and the dry fruits to the carrots and cook on low flame for another 5 minutes.Your Carrot dessert is ready.
Tips:
U can use red food colour if u r not using beetroot.
I used evaporated milk with cardamom flavour instead of adding cardamom powder separately.
I also tried using vanilla essence but i prefer cardamom over it.
Rava laddoo
yummy it was !!!!!!!
Friday i was yearning to eat some sweet and the day before i had seen this video for the recipe of rava laddoo on the youtube…So i just went into the kitchen n startd the preparation coz its very easy and all the ingres were available at home. Back in India this is a very common sweet in many houses.i dint used to have much love for it before, but when i made it myself, I simply finished all those in 2 days.
.Well i shared it with my hubby and kid too..
Now herez a quick procedure for the laddoos.

butter- 4oz or half a stick
golden raisins/kismis-1/4 cup
rava/semolina-2cups
sugar – 2cups
dried shredded coconut- 1/4 cup
cardamom pwder- 1/2tsp
almonds/pista/cashew- 1/4cup
saffron (ground to powder)- a pinch
evaporated milk-5 oz
method:
Melt the butter n saute the raisins for a min or till they swell, remove the raisins and add rava to the butter in the pan.keep stirring till light colour change(dont turn it to brown). Now add sugar and coconut and mix well for a few mins.Add cardamom powder , dry fruits and crushd saffron and mix well for 2 mins. Now add evaporated milk and keep mixing for a min.Remove from the stove and mix well for a few more minutes.Make golf size balls and serve.Makes around 40 to 50 balls depending upon the size.
tips:
Make balls immediately wen hot and use cold water to caot ur hands before taking the hot mixture.this will protect ur hands from burning.
If u dont want to sweet u can adjust the sugar to 1 1/2 cup
Store in an airtight container and put in refridgerator.
Enjoy ur yummy work.
